Every guide names the person who wrote it, the person who checked it, and the date they did. Anything past its re-check date says so, because a confident page about a mountain road that nobody has looked at since last season is worse than no page.

What the route is actually like, and what changes it.
Is the road to Adi Kailash motorable, or do I have to trek?
Motorable. The Ministry of External Affairs stated in May 2026 that both routes are now fully motorable with very little trekking, and its 2026 itinerary covers Dharchula to Gunji by jeep. Most of what is written online still describes the old five-day walk.
What nobody is watching on this route
No official source reports road status above Tawaghat. No weather station exists on the route, so every temperature is a model estimate. No glacial lake warning system covers the six lakes in the Kali headwaters. And there is no hospital above Dharchula.

Adi Kailash or Kailash Mansarovar? They are not the same journey
Adi Kailash and Om Parvat stay inside India and need only an Inner Line Permit. The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra crosses into Tibet, runs 22 days, costs about 2.09 lakh, caps age at 70 and requires a Chinese visa. We run the first and cannot get anybody a place on the second.
What should I pack for Adi Kailash?
Layers rather than one heavy jacket, shoes you have already worn in, and sun protection that matters more at altitude than the temperature does. Carry original documents on paper: there is no usable signal for long stretches above Dharchula, and a missing paper ends the trip at Chiyalekh.
Where is the inner line permit issued, and how long is it valid?
At the SDM office in Dharchula, or at Pithoragarh district hospital rooms 28 and 29. It is valid for four days, cut from fifteen in May 2024 to reduce crowding at altitude. The Inner Line you actually cross is at Chiyalekh, above Dharchula, where the ITBP checks everyone.
